The next phase will include the expansion of the current dining hall into the Sturrock Meeting Room. The plans include installing dividers where the current wall is between the two rooms. This will allow us to feed up to 250 people at once, but will allow us to still use the Sturrock Room as a meeting room while smaller camps are using the facility.
The third phase is adding two new cabins down around Caddo Hall to increase the sleeping capacity of Gilmont as a whole. This will also allow Gilmont to have another area where groups can have a retreat, but increase the total number of campers we can have during a larger camp.
The final phase that Gilmont has had is a larger office space, and plans to build a Welcome Center where new and current users can come and feel a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This will allow our staff to be able to set up better means of communications between groups as well as meet the needs of the church.

Camp Gilmont’s Board of Directors and staff are currently involved in a process of prayerfully considering what God wants Gilmont to become. We feel that God is calling us to step outside our comfort zone and step into faith; that Camp Gilmont needs to start a growing process. The items that are included on this page have been discussed in this process. Gilmont is going to be taking a journey toward the future and to what God has planned. We challenge you to join us in taking that step of faith and join us on this journey. |

Camp Gilmont Crain Memorial Center Ground Breaking The officers of Camp Gilmont met on the campus near Gilmer, Gilmer, Texas on July 29th for a ground breaking ceremony to begin construction of the 6,000 sq. ft. Crain Memorial Center. This facility will be the centerpiece of Camp Gilmont according to President Doyle Read. The building will seat approximately 300 campers allowing the camp to host large groups for spiritual retreats, camps and conferences, and other events. The Crain Center is given in memory of the late B. W. Crain, Jr. by his wife Ann Lacy Crain. Mr. Crain was a distinguished architect, community leader, oil and gas executive and a lifelong Presbyterian. The interior of the building will provide opportunities to recognize other contributions to the project like the Mobley family in memory of David Mobley, a former board member, the Susie and Paul Morris estate, the Mabee Foundation, the Spradlin Foundation, church foundations and others. Mrs. Crain selected Camp Gilmont for her generous gift because of the camp’s commitment to Christian ministry, especially to children and youth. Camp Gilmont is owned and managed by a board of directors from Presbyterian churches in East Texas, including three Cumberland churches. The officers are: Doyle Read, President, W. D. O’Neal, Vice-President and Development Officer, Mickey Melton, Treasurer and Scott Mackey, Secretary. Thomas Truitt is camp manager. The committee charged to build the facility was chaired by Bob Osborne. Members were Mike Hawkins, Jamey Walker, Marvin Terrell, Harry Hodges, James Hilliard and Thomas Truitt. Missionary Tech, a non-profit Christian group, provided architectural and engineering services. The contractor is Transet Corporation of Longview. |
